Drew Buckley is one of the UK’s top landscape and wildlife photographers — in fact when it comes to photography he has more strings on his bow than that. For the last four years, Pembrokeshire based Drew has been busy writing about and photographing the most beautiful locations for photography in South Wales.

And now his book, Photographing South Wales (448 pages, 62 locations, over 500 photographs) is available HERE

If you aren’t familiar with South Wales it should be one of the top landscape destinations in the UK, its magnificent rocky coastline faces west and south, and is lined with limestone and sandstone cliffs, split by coves and sandy beaches, with peninsulas and headlands jutting out in to the ocean. Inland of the Gower and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park there are lagoons and woodland, the majestic peaks of the Brecon Beacons National Park and one of the best locations for autumn woodland and waterfall photography, the aptly named Waterfall Country near Neath.

Drew is well known for his wildlife photography and he takes us on a guided tour of Skomer Island and its summer puffins and further north to the red kites near the Elan Valley.

South Wales literary and cultural history is described with a visit to Dylan Thomas’s writing shed at Laugharne, and numerous castles, churches, stone circles and villages. He takes us around the urban architecture of Cardiff Bay and the Severn bridge, with a sneak across the border to visit Symonds Yat Rock and Ross-on-Wye.

I’m most certainly looking forward to this one. I’ve always struggled to find more than a handful of locations in South Wales and knowing that this was written by master photographer Drew Buckley, I cannot wait to get this one and start planning to make the most of the information.
