Snowdonia Mountains Pre-Orders and Cover Choice

Thank you to everyone who voted for the cover choice of Nick Livesey’s Photographing The Snowdonia Mountains. It was close. Results below.

And here is the talented man himself, Nick Livesey.

The results were:

Cover one (RIGHT COVER) is of Castell y Gwynt on Glyder Fach, and cover two (LEFT) is of the Snowdon massif from Bwlch y Marchlyn.

Cover 1: 644 votes: 53%
Cover 2: 564 votes: 47%

So the cover shot is of Dan Aspel on Castell y Gwynt on a February afternoon. But of course, the image of the Snowdon massif from Bwlch y Marchlyn is being used within the book as well.

Foreword by Sir Chris Bonington

The other big news is that one of the world’s foremost mountaineers, Sir Chris Bonington is writing the foreword to Nick’s book. Sir Chris started hill walking and climbing as a teenager in Snowdonia and the mountains of North Wales are very close to his heart. Chris was aware of Nick and after we sent him proofs he kindly agreed to write the foreword to Nick’s book — unfortunately we can’t publish Nick’s exact response, let’s just say the air was blue with jubilation and joy.

Photographing The Snowdonia Mountains by Nick Livesey is a detailed hill walking guidebook and a photo-location guidebook, all rolled into one volume. Nick has documented the best circular walks for mountain photography in Snowdonia, and the best roadside locations and short walks to photograph the mountains from. Nick’s book is in landscape format and as well as engaging text, walking route descriptions and stunning photography, Don Williams of Bute Cartographics has pulled out the stops and produced large detailed contoured maps for each walk and the book has been beautifully designed and laid out by Nathan Ryder of Ryder Design.

SAMPLE PAGES

As well as being a new type of hill walking book that focusses on the best views and photography, we have, for this fotoVUE Mountain Series—there are several more being worked on— changed format to landscape, and a double page spread (when the book is open) stretches for nearly 50cm (or 20 inches!), full page panoramic images are truly splendid to look at. It’s a hybrid book: a guidebook full of useful information to help you plan your own photographic mountain adventures, a coffee table book to browse at home and get inspired and motivated, it offers advice on mountain safety and gear, and of course great tips on mountain photography.
